Hey, come on in!
Welcome to the new look 1st Clevedon Scouts website. We're one of the largest yet fastest growing groups in the area, with over 150 young people spread across 1 Scout troop, 2 Cub Packs and 2 Beaver Colonies and regularly attending our programme of traditional scouting activities.
Scouting goes far beyond being a progressive programme of activities designed to help the young develop holistically. It provides a foundation for great values to live by: helpfulness, friendship, cooperation; respect for self and for others; understanding and tolerance; integrity based on loyalty, honesty and trust; leadership, resourcefulness and courage in the face of difficulties.
The scout movement was launched in Clevedon on November 6, 1909, and met in the YMCA building in Marson Road.
A year later Sir Edmund Elton offered a site, now Morrisons car park, for a Clevedon and Walton Bay Scout headquarters and provided a scout hut, which was built by Coles builders.
This hut was used until 1986 when the land was sold and a new scout hut was built next to the football club off Southey Road.
If you're eagle-eyed then you can still find a plaque marking the old location of the scout hut in the area.
We'll be trying to keep the website updated with the latest Scout related news and events so that we can keep you abreast of what is happening in each of the units - Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. There is also useful information on how we ensure the children are safe at all times, how they benefit from the activities and sessions, what badges they can earn and where to put them, how you can get involved to help out and many other things.
If you can think of anything that is missing or not quite right then please don't hesitate in contacting us either through the webmaster@1stclevedonscouts.org.uk email address or by using the 'Contact us' form. Someone from Clevedon 1st Scouts will get back to you as soon they can.
Come and join in the fun.
