Posted on November 27th, 2019 by Mike_Provis

1st Clevedon Scout Group are once again running their local Christmas Card postal service for Clevedon residents again in 2019. The money raised from this event is essential to help keep the Scout Group running and to maintain the various activities we offer all our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

Many businesses in Clevedon support us each year by selling our Scout Christmas Stamps (30p each this year) and having one of our Scout Christmas Post Boxes in their shop. Throughout December the Scout Group will be collecting, sorting and delivering Christmas Cards – last post collection being 2pm on Saturday 14th December.

  • Mark Templar
  • Reeds Rains

At 2:30pm on Sunday 12th November 2017 1st Clevedon Beavers, Cubs, Scouts & Explorers took part in the Clevedon Remembrance parade, organised by the Royal British Legion. We marched in full uniform with 2nd Clevedon Scouts, Guides/Brownies and many other groups including war veterans.

The march to St Andrews Church was brilliantly led by The City Of Bristol Pipe and drums band.

All of the Explorers, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers looked very smart in full uniform, marched brilliantly and were impeccably behaved on the day – a credit to the group!

Beavers Fun on the Water

Posted on July 4th, 2017 by Mike_Provis

The 1st Clevedon Beavers got the chance to have lots of water when having some Kayaking and Canoeing training on the amazing Clevedon Marine Lake, courtesy of the Clevedon Canoe Club and Marlens. We’re so lucky to have a facility like this on our doorstep!

The Beavers absolutely loved it with most of them staying dry, but a few going for a dip and most important of all coming back up with a smile on their face and getting straight back on the horse, or rather the Kayak. They did amazingly well considering they are all between 6 and 8 years old.

The sessions was brilliantly run by 3 of the canoe club’s instructors and a big thank you goes to Steve and Ali for helping to organise it all.

This was the first time we’ve ever done anything like this with the Beavers, but it’s safe to say that we will be doing it again next year as it was a huge success! 🙂

1st Clevedon Beavers 400 mile challenge

Posted on January 21st, 2017 by Mike_Provis

1st Clevedon Beavers as a group are taking on the challenge this term of walking the equivalent distance of Clevedon Pier to the Eiffel Tower in Paris – a cool 400 miles.

They will be doing this over 3 walks with each Beaver clocking up approximately 8 miles, for which they will be raising sponsorship for a fantastic local charity called the Springboard Opportunity Group. It’s all part of the Beavers working towards their World Challenge and Community Impact Activity badges.

Formed in 1986, Springboard is the only organisation of its kind in the North Somerset area and has worked with thousands of children and their families and now provides a vital service for over 100 children and their families every week. They work with a wide range of children with additional needs including those with autistic spectrum disorders, physical disabilities, sensory impairment, emotional and behavioural difficulties, communication difficulties and other learning disabilities.

Their mission is to give the best possible start in life to children under 5 by providing specialist early learning and interventions and offering support and friendship to their families.

Our Beavers need you

Posted on March 9th, 2016 by Mike_Provis

1st Clevedon Scouts are currently looking for volunteers to fill the positions of Beaver leader and/or assistant leaders to help run the Waverly Beavers that meet at 6pm on Thursdays.

The sessions last for an hour and are during term time only. They are lots of fun for the kids and for the leaders, assistants and parent helpers. There will be lots of opportunities to do all sorts of fun things including crafts, cooking, outdoor hikes and games, camping sleepovers, Christmas carol singing – too many to mention here.

There are also new leaders for the 1st Clevedon Brunel Beaver colony that are currently going through training, so there will be plenty of help to get you up and running. We won’t throw you in on your own – we’ll be with you every step of the way until you feel confident enough to take over.

It’s a great time to join the 1st Clevedon Scouting family as a volunteer as there are exciting new changes within the group to improve the facilities, introduce new processes and make things easier to run the individual groups/units.

Please check out the pages of our new website to get more information on who we are and what we do.

If you would like more info on the available positions, please leave a comment or contact us.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers

Posted on February 1st, 2016 by Mike_Provis

1st Clevedon Scouts are collecting Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers in 2016 so please save them and drop them off at the Scout hut whenever you can.

The earlier a child learns to eat well and keep active, the more likely they are to live well too. That’s why your support for Active Kids can make such a difference to children’s futures. So collect as many vouchers as you can to help us to get our hands on some exciting new sports and cooking equipment and experiences for our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

It’s easy to collect vouchers for Active Kids 2016. Simply shop in Sainsbury’s stores and online at sainsburys.co.uk and you will earn Active Kids vouchers on your shopping.

In Sainsbury’s Locals, you will get one voucher for every £5 you spend. You’ll notice these vouchers are larger than the ones you receive in Sainsbury’s supermarkets and have a photograph on them.

In Sainsbury’s Supermarkets you’ll receive 1 voucher for every £10 you spend. So if you spend £40 you’ll get four vouchers, but what’s new is that they’ll all be printed on one piece of paper. These vouchers are white and smaller in size, with no photograph on them.

Once you’ve collected your vouchers, bring them in to the Scout hut and deposit them in the box in the hallway.

If you’d like to see what great equipment and activities we could order, take a look at this year’s catalogue.
